BIG MOUNTAIN Program

AGES 7-18

Loveland Ski Club provides a dedicated pathway for developing confident, lifelong skiers. Built on a foundation of joy, our program utilizes Loveland’s legendary high-alpine terrain to foster technical mastery and a deep-seated passion for the mountains. We empower athletes to explore their limits in a fun, high-energy environment that celebrates every turn.

Ages 7-18

What Makes LSC Unique

  • PREMIER TERRAIN ACCESS: Athletes train across Loveland’s diverse high-alpine environment—a natural classroom for mastery. This includes periodic access to our dedicated training venue, a space closed to the public that offers a controlled environment for refining both foundational skills and advanced concepts.

  • FLEXIBLE COMPETITIVE PATHWAYS: We recognize that every journey is unique. Our U12 program offers the versatility to explore YSL Alpine racing, test skills in IFSA Freeride events, or focus entirely on personal progression with no competitive requirement.

  • RECREATIONAL FOCUS (U15/U19): For older athletes, the focus is on mastering variable terrain and building confidence. While primarily recreational, athletes interested in the competitive side may coordinate with coaching staff to participate in one IFSA competition and/or YSL Alpine racing.

  • A "CREW" MENTALITY: We foster a supportive team culture where shared exploration and collective progression drive both athletic growth and a lifelong love for the sport.

Athlete Requirements

To ensure safety and steady progression, all athletes must meet the following standards:

  • TECHNICAL PROFICIENCY: Ability to ski blue and black diamond terrain confidently with parallel form and consistent speed control.

  • EQUIPMENT STANDARDS: Appropriately maintained alpine gear, including mandatory helmets, recommended back protectors, and equipment suited for all-mountain conditions.

  • COMMITMENT TO GROWTH: A mindset focused on coachability, exploration, and contributing positively to the team’s energy.

What Athletes Gain

  • ALL-MOUNTAIN VERSATILITY: Comprehensive skill development across groomed runs, moguls, steep bowls, and trees, ensuring readiness for any mountain condition.

  • TACTICAL AWARENESS: Athletes learn to "read" the mountain, mastering smart line selection, terrain management, and high-alpine safety protocols.

  • PERSONALIZED COMPETITION SUPPORt: For those choosing the competitive track, athletes receive event-specific preparation and mentorship.

    • U12: Eligible for up to three IFSA U12 competitions and/or club supported YSL Alpine Races

    • U15/U19: Eligible for one introductory IFSA competition and/or club supported YSL Alpine Races

The Freeride Team is an incredible program that provides both a challenging and fun environment for young skiers to improve their skills. My daughter's skiing progressed tremendously in our first season, and she made great friends along the way. Her little sister was even so impressed that we'll be eagerly signing them both up for the upcoming season.

Jeremy, member since 2023

Watching my daughter grow up and thrive in Big Mountain has been truly remarkable. The program has not only honed her technical skills but also instilled a deep sense of confidence in skiing all terrain and conditions. She has become an adept skier, confidently taking on everything from moguls and steeps, to crushing pow off the ridge with total enthusiasm.

Michael, member since 2019
