BIG MOUNTAIN COMPETITION

Loveland Ski Club's Big Mountain Competition Program is built for the intermediate-to-advanced skier who wants to gain experience as a competitive big mountain skier. The Competition Team will train for and travel to IFSA Junior series events.

U12 Competitive Team: Ages 10-11

U15 Competitive Team: Ages 12-14

U18 Competitive Team: Ages 15-18

The Big Mountain Competition Team is for athletes who are interested in being a big mountain competitor in the IFSA Junior Series. Highly trained coaches with competition-specific knowledge will introduce new athletes - and progress more experienced athletes - to become confident and competent competitors. Coaches will tailor training to include a progressive understanding of the judged criteria; line choice, technique, control, fluidity and style/energy. Additionally, athletes will learn expert skills to foster a lifelong career in the mountains. Skills will include proficiency in all terrain and all conditions, tree skiing, steeps, moguls, natural features, exposure, hiking and avalanche awareness. This team moves at a fast pace, both on snow and in knowledge, and athletes are held to a high level of expectation. This program helps to instill drive, motivation, camaraderie and a lifelong passion for skiing whether that means a continued career in competing or an avid skier for life.

TRAINING REGIMENS FOR ALL AGE GROUPS:

SKILL DEVELOPMENT: Athletes will be guided through a continuous progression of skills through the use of individualized coaching and drills which are designed to help them advance their skills while skiing all over the mountain. Teaching progressions are designed around the Loveland Ski Club Method of Progression.

GUIDED FREESKIING: As each athlete grows in skill and ability, they will be exposed to a variety of more challenging snow conditions, lessons and drills, and terrain. This includes bumps, steeps, variable snow conditions, deep powder, open glades, upper mountain hike-to terrain and tree skiing.

MOUNTAIN KNOWLEDGE: The success of the Big Mountain Teams is rooted in the extensive use of the terrain all over the mountain, and having the know-how to make good decisions. The mountain is our greatest teacher, and exposure to more varied terrian keeps the learning - and fun - factors high.

AVALANCHE AWARENESS: Athletes will be introduced to a broad range of terrain and snow conditions including 30+ degree avalanche paths, chutes, cornices, terrain-traps, tree wells and exposure. This immersion into avalanche awareness is designed to fuse the athletes developing skills with the strategy and tactics required to be a successful lifelong skier.

Loveland Ski Club coaches are supportive and friendly, but really push the skills. The progression my daughter experienced in just one year was phenomenal. Not only that, she developed a love for freeride competitions and there's no going back!

Thank you, Loveland Ski Club, for all of the fine coaching, terrain, opportunities, and community. From the beginner racing program to the Big Mountain Competition program, my child had an amazing time and grew as an athlete and a person. We love our Loveland Ski Club family!
