Job Description

Loveland Ski Club (LSC) is seeking an experienced, passionate, and athlete-centered Big Mountain Coach to help foster and grow one of Colorado’s premier youth freeride programs.

Located at 10,800 feet in the Colorado Rockies, Loveland Ski Club provides one of the longest and most consistent training seasons in the country. In partnership with Loveland Ski Area, LSC offers athletes access to exceptional all-mountain terrain, steep skiing, hike-to terrain, moguls, variable snow conditions, and a vibrant freeride culture rooted in skill development, mountain awareness, and athlete progression.

The Big Mountain Coach will work closely with the lead Big Mountain Coach to deliver high-level freeride coaching for youth athletes in both competitive and non-competitive pathways.

This position is ideal for a coach who is deeply passionate about skiing, athlete development, mountain culture, and building confident, technically proficient skiers both in and outside of competition environments.

 

Responsibilities

  • Assist lead Big Mountain coach with on-snow training sessions for Big Mountain athletes in IFSA competition and freeride development programs

  • Develop athletes’ technical skiing skills across all terrain and snow conditions

  • Foster a positive, challenging, inclusive, and athlete-centered team environment

  • Support athlete preparation for IFSA and other competitions

  • Travel and coach at designated competitions and training camps as needed

  • Assist with seasonal training plans and athlete evaluations

  • Promote mountain safety, avalanche awareness, and sound decision-making

  • Communicate professionally with athletes, parents, and staff

  • Collaborate with lead Big Mountain Coach to maintain consistent standards and progression pathways

  • Serve as a visible leader who reflects the values and culture of Loveland Ski Club

 

Position Structure & Schedule

  • Approximately 1 day per week

  • Primary on-snow coaching day is Saturday, potentially additional Sundays if desired

  • Typical season runs from mid-December through mid-April

 

Qualifications

  • Strong expert-level skiing ability in steep and variable terrain

  • Previous freeride / big mountain coaching experience 

  • IFSA competition experience and/or coaching background strongly preferred

  • Experience working with youth athletes 

  • Ability to coach both foundational and advanced freeride skills

  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills

  • Passion for long-term athlete development and mentorship

  • Current or willingness to obtain:

    • CPR/First Aid certification

    • SafeSport certification

    • Background check clearance

  • Avalanche education or backcountry experience preferred

  • US Ski & Snowboard or IFSA coaching certification preferred

 

Compensation

  • Big Mountain Coach position: approximately $175–$225/day

  • Compensation will depend on qualification, experience and certifications.
